Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American singer-actress and former model. Her most well-known role was co-starring in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain and for having been the singer in the girl group Apollonia 6. The singer and actress christened Apollonia by Prince was one of the many female performers in the 1980s that benefited from her connection with the Purple One. Patricia Kotero began her acting and modeling career in Santa Monica California, in the latter part of the 1970s. She also appeared on CHiPS. In 1984, she was cast as the leading woman in the movie Prince's Purple Rain. (During this period, she also changed her name.) Her replacement was Vanity of the female group Vanity 6 who starred in the film with Apollonia 6 under their name. Sex Shooter, a song from the soundtrack was a minor hit for her trio but as Prince's duet partner in Take Me with You she was more successful. The relationship between Kotero and Prince ended when the pair were at odds over her future career path. Apollonia 6, the group she was part of was split. The singer then appeared in couple of films that were minor during the 80s (reportedly refusing an offer to star in the follow-up to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon), before settling on acting in a role at night for the film Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia's debut album came out in 1988. The R&B and dance songs were not a huge hit by those who bought music. It soon disappeared. In the years that followed the singer-songwriter remained an active actress with minor film roles and a few TV series. Apollonia's album "Stay With Me" came out in 1997. In later years, after returning to school and receiving a degree for filmmaking she formed her production business. Apollonia holds a number of jobs.
